The Gospel

What is the Gospel?

Consider these important truths found in the Bible

God Created and Owns All Things

Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Psalm 24:1 – “The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it.

God has ultimate and absolute authority over His creation, including us. We are accountable to obey and worship Him alone. This is our highest achievement and joy.

God is Perfect and Holy

1 John 1:5 – “God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.”

1 Peter 1:16 – “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

This Creator God established all the moral laws that govern his creation. Any violation of His laws He calls sin. He cannot commit sin, nor approve of it.

All People Have Broken God’s Law

Romans 3:23 – “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

James 2:10 – “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.”

We are all unable to perfectly obey God. Our sins have greatly offended Him.

Each Person Deserves Eternal Punishment for Their Sins

Ezekiel 18:4 – “For the soul that sins will die.”

Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death.”

God’s holiness and justice demand that all sins be punished by eternal death in Hell.

No One Can Escape This Judgment On Their Own

Titus 3:5 – “[Salvation is] not on the basis of deeds which we have done.”

God Sent His One And Only Son, Jesus, And He Lived In Perfect Obedience To His Father’s Law

Hebrews 4:15 – “[He] was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

Colossians 2:9 – “For in Him all the fullness of the deity dwells in bodily form.”

Jesus was perfectly God and perfectly Man, and therefore able to pay the penalty for our sins.

Jesus Demonstrated God’s Mercy By Dying A Death We All Deserve To Pay The Penalty Of Sin For All Who Believe

Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 – “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

His death was a substitution for all believers – He took the punishment and died the death that we deserve.

Jesus Rose From His Grave Three Days Later and Is Alive Today

1 Corinthians 15:4 – “He was buried, and…He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures.”

His resurrection from the dead proved He was God, and proved His sacrificial death was enough to satisfy God’s wrath against sin. Jesus is now the risen Lord to all who believe.

Because of Jesus, All Who Believe Can Be Saved From God’s Judgment, And Receive As A Free Gift Forgiveness Of Sins

Romans 6:23 – “The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Ephesians 2:8 – “For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

You cannot earn the forgiveness of your sins and eternal life with God – no amount of good works will ever be enough. As an act of His kindness, God willingly forgives all who will turn from their sins and believe in Jesus.

John 3:16 – “For God loved the world so much, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

True saving faith is more than a mere intellectual acknowledgement to the facts about Jesus. True saving faith is genuinely expressed by humbly recognizing your sinfulness and disobedience against God; and turning from living for yourself to serve and worship God alone. True saving faith acknowledges Jesus as the new ruler of your life.

Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

You can know you have been forgiven of your sins and have a relationship with God. Cry out to God and ask Him to forgive your sins. Put your faith in Jesus as the new ruler of your life.

Romans 10:13 – “For whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
